やきゅうの オペニング デイ

先週の　月曜日に　やきゅうの　じきは　(season)　はじまりました。私の　一番　好きな　ティムは　フィラデルフィア　フィリズ　です。　先じき、ワールド　シリズを　もうすこしで　かつところでした。(almost won) このじきは、ワールド　シリズを　かつと　おもいます。　すでに　きろくは　(record)　５−１で、いいティム　だとおもいます。そして、フィリズの　クロジング　ピッチャーは　（ブラド　リジ）ノートルダム　大学の　せんしゅう　でした。

くわきするぴにく！！

このクリップが　大好きです。これは　”土曜日の　ばん　ライブ”　です。かんこく人の　ウエブサイトから　来ます。マイクマイヤスさんの　日本語を　話すのが　上手だと　おもいます。　

スカイデック (Sears Tower Skydeck)

シャーズターワーの　百三かいに　スカイデックが　あります。　ぼくの　はる休みに　スカイデックで　シカゴを見に　行きました。

スカイデックは　ガラスの　はこ　です。　あそこで　シャースターワーの　まえの　ストリートを　見ます。とても　すごい　です。しゃしんがあります。

千四百五十一 feet　です。　（四百四十二 meters　です。）

アレン　と　ムラン　サニーイタリーで　ばんごはんを　食べます。。。

サウソ パーカ

さいきん　このサウソパーカを　みました。この　ばんぐみは (TV show)　とてもたのしので、私は　大好き　です。クリッパが　あります。

クリッパで、せいとは (students)　”チンポコモン”が　すきなので、日本語で　はなします。”チンポコモン”　are a knock-off on the ポケモン　appeal in the US.　As a former middle school 先生 and as a 日本語　student, I get a kick out of this clip. Be advised: 日本語で　英語で　languageが　あります。

私の 一番 いい友達

私の　一番　いい友だちは　バージンヤに　います。　そこで　しごとを　します。　たんしくて、いい人です。バージンヤに　しごとをしに　いきましたが、ペンシルベンヤから　きました。スポーツの中で、サッカーも　ゴルフも　大好きですが、サッカーの方が　ゴルフより　好きです。サッカーは　私の友だちの　一番　好きなスポーツです。しごとをするので、学生じゃありません。

バージ カリーファ

Some こうがくの　ニュース。　ふゆ休みに　ヅバイで　あたらしたてものが　たてました。なまえは　バージ　カリーファ (Burj Khalifa)。このたてものは　とても　たかい　です。シカゴの　シャズターワー　is 1,450 feet tall (442 meters for any international readers). ヅバイの　バージ　カリーファ is 2,700 feet tall (828 meters). The building is half a mile tall. Amazing. ホテール　と　アパート (とても　高い)　と　プール (outdoor too)が　あります。 このたてものは　スパル　ですよ。

私の まち

ぼくの　まちは　とても　きれいなまち　ですよ。なまえは　キャンプ　ヒールです。ペンシルベニャの　ヘーリスバグの　ちかくに　あります。ちさいまちです　でも　たくさん　こえん　と　レストランが　あります。　私の　うちは　まちの　プールの　ちかくに　あります。　山　と　川が　ありません　でも　たくさん　きが　ありますよ。　ぼくの
　まちは　いいですね。

ぼくのへやは　とても　おおきいです。りょおの　アシスタントレクト　です。つくえ　と　たんす　と　ベッドが　あります。　つくえの　うえに　あたらしいコンピュータが　あります。ソファの　まえに　あたらしいテレビが　あります。おおきいテブル　と　ほんだなが　あります。シャワが　あります。　とても　いい　ですよ。このへやは　りっぱな　へや　です。

MXC ゲームショ (たけしの Castle)

If you've never seen Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, it's worth watching this compilation of most painful eliminations. This is an アメリカじんの version of a にほんごの　ゲームショ。A lot to enjoy here--the challenges, the contestants, the voice-overs in えいご。This was one of the better versions I could find. May　be for the best that the えいご dubbing is hard to hear. Enjoy.

アイヨンシェフ

Great show, high on pure entertainment. One of my first exposures to Japanese culture. The host of Iron Chef is a Japanese millionaire who spent his fortune building a world-class kitchen arena. Challengers are invited to culinary battle with the Iron Chefs, each cook preparing dishes based on a "secret ingredient" determined each time. The action begins at 5:40 in this video, though the introduction is also worth watching. Unfortunately, they cut out the revealing of the theme ingredient at the end of this clip--great reaction from Kobayashi. You should be able to find the next part at the end of the video.

ミストスパークラ！

A funny clip from one of my favorite shows. Homer notices that the logo on his Japanese dish detergent bears his resemblance. After contacting the company to try and find out why his face was used as a logo, the Simpsons receive an explanatory video from the makers of Mr. Sparkle.

Two main thoughts: a) I wonder if the subtitles are accurate--wouldn't be surprised either way; and b) I aspire to be able to translate all the Japanese seen and heard in this clip. Forgive the thought bubble 0:28 in. It's annoying, but the clip makes up for it.

Kansai International Airport

This is an aerial photo of Kansai International Airport, near Osaka and Kobe, Japan. Built on a man-made island in Osaka Bay, and built to withstand earthquakes and typhoons, this is one of the world's most impressive feats in civil engineering.

こんいちは、

ムラんです。This is my blog for First Year Japanese I. I am the old man in the class, having graduated from ND in 2007. I'm back in the Master's of Civil Engineering department, taking my first Japanese course on the side. I have attached photos of Tokyo's skyline and Kansai Airport on the site, scene of some of the world's most innovative structural, earthquake, and tsunami engineering.

I enjoy the challenge of learning a non-Romance language, of learning a new alphabet(s). Japanese culture and history have interested me for some time, and I felt that learning the language would make new learning and working experiences possible for me.

I hope you enjoy my insights on this page.
